Our History

The Society was established on 5 February 1972 by combining 16 small fishing co-operative societies. The milestones below are drawn from the Society's commemorative publication.

    The Society was established by combining 16 small fishing co-operative societies.

    Founding fishermen

    1,237 founding fishermen are recorded in the commemorative publication.

    Initial resources

    116 fishing vessels are recorded among the initial resources. The publication also refers to a fuel station and a fishing equipment shop.

    Membership

    Approximately 950 members were recorded at the time of the commemorative publication.

    Branch network

    Sixteen branch societies were recorded, with eleven reported as active at that time.
